Our dedicated team will help you decide which method of sedation is best for you.
Here are the sedation and anesthesia options available to you:
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral Conscious Sedation is sedation with pills taken before and during your appointment to keep you comfortable and relaxed during your treatment. You are conscious and responsive, but will most likely have little or no memory of your treatment. You will be safely monitored as well throughout your procedure by your dental team.
Moderate IV Sedation
Moderate IV Sedation is a drug-induced depression of consciousness through intravenous medication during which you will respond purposefully to verbal commands, either alone or accompanied by light tactile stimulation. You will feel drowsy and may sleep through the procedure, and may or may not remember being in the treatment. Our Horizon anesthesiologist will be monitoring vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels, which will be watched closely in order to avoid sudden changes or complications.
Deep Sedation
Deep sedation is a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which you cannot be easily aroused but respond purposefully following repeated or painful stimulation. You will have little or no memory of the procedure. During the procedure, breathing can slow down and you may sleep until the medication wears off. Supplemental oxygen is also given. You are constantly monitored by our Horizon anesthesiologist for you safety.
General Anesthesia
In short, we bring the safety of the hospital to our office. General Anesthesia is a drug-induced loss of consciousness (sometimes called “sleep dentistry) during which you are unconscious and unresponsive, and not arousable, even by painful stimulation. There are a number of general anesthetic drugs, some are gases or vapors inhaled through a breathing mask or tube and others are medications introduced through a vein. You are carefully monitored, controlled and treated by our Horizon anesthesiologists, who use sophisticated equipment to track all major bodily functions. A breathing tube may be inserted through the mouth or nose and frequently into the windpipe to maintain proper breathing during this period. The length and level of anesthesia is calculated and constantly adjusted with great precision. At the conclusion of your treatment, the anesthesiologist will reverse the process and you regain consciousness. This is the safest and most predictable method of sedation and anesthesia.
As part of your oral health team, we are proud to partner with Horizon Anesthesia and their first-class anesthesiologists.
